On Saturday, August 25th, 2018, Wayne Gilmore’s heart stopped while playing the game that was closest to his heart, softball. Though every possible attempt was made to revive him, ultimately, God called his son home. He was 48. Wayne was a devoted husband of 19 years to Lara E. Gilmore (nee Wagner); loving son of George W. Gilmore Sr. and the late Geraldine E. Gilmore; beloved father of Joseph Wagner, Brittney Gilmore, Isaac Wagner, Torie Wagner, and Aaliyah Gilmore; caring brother of Gerry Teasley, George Gilmore Jr., Dolores Mason, Hope Thomas, and Robert Gilmore; and cherished grandfather of Mia Wagner. He is also survived by countless family members and dear friends.
Wayne was born in Brooklyn, New York, but has called Severn, Maryland home since 2000. No matter where Wayne was located, Brooklyn has always remained close to his heart.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, serving as a Combat Medic during Operation Desert Storm. Most recently, Wayne worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Very active in physical fitness, Wayne was a NASM certified personal trainer and lead fitness classes at the gym. He enjoyed a variety of sports, but his passion was always softball and boxing. He also participated in speed and agility training camps for youth groups.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Xtreme Mpact Family Martial Arts of Odenton, Maryland.
