Patricia M. Kennedy, of Rochester, Minnesota (formerly of Laurel, Maryland), passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on June 5, 2022 at age 90. Born in the Bronx, New York to the late John and Ella O’Hara, Pat attended Saint Simon Stock Grammer and High School and graduated from Hunter College in 1954.
She began her career in elementary education in Niagara Falls, New York where she met her husband, the late Peter P. Kennedy, to whom she was married for 60 years. Pat loved teaching first grade and was able to teach at various schools located near Peter’s duty stations around the world. She spent a lifetime teaching in various public and parochial schools both as a permanent and substitute teacher. Her last teaching position was at St. Matthias school in Maryland, where many of her first graders went on to be very successful and have thanked her for her inspirations as a teacher.
She was always very active at all of Peter’s duty stations, frequently forming a bridge group to allow her to continue with her love of the game and making lifelong friends. Pat loved to travel, accompanying Peter on many trips around the world during his time in the Navy and after his retirement.
Pat was devoted to her family and is survived by her son Christopher P. Kennedy (Betsy) and daughters Patricia M. Lazzaro-Swirski (Chester) and Eileen M. Kennedy-Warrington (Arthur); 5 grandchildren: Kathleen Lazzaro (Sarah), Angus Kennedy (Molly), Brian Lazzaro, Hannah Kennedy (Nick), and Aidan Warrington; 3 step grandchildren: Lauren Berry (Jeremy), Steven Swirski, and Heather Bennett-Hart (Absalom); 2 great-grandchildren: Julian Kennedy and Elliot Lazzaro; 2 step great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Ameila Berry; and Sister June Gill (John) and Sister-In-Law Bernadette Kennedy.
